As a member of student foundation one of our many responsibilities is to thank the generous donors for their giving. Fitting for me, huh?
Each semester every member is required to sign up for a 2 hour shift for thank you calling. We spend those 2 hours calling all the donors who have given back to TCU financially. I am a huge fan of this because those donations truly do make a difference on this campus. They are part of my experience and I find it very important to thank the individuals who make that happen. It can also be really funny.
Most people don't answer so I left a lot of nice voicemails thanking them for their time and generosity. I also had a lady answer
"Hi Mrs______ my name is Cade Bethea and I am a member of Student Foundation her at TCU..."
Nothing on the other end. I didn't even get to tell her thank you. Her loss right?
Last semester when I did thank you calling someone actually knew that I was Southern and Thankful... COOLEST THING EVER. (I blogged about it that day if you'd like to go back and look lol).
It is so cool because on the rare occasion when someone does answer the phone, there is always a couple or at least one person who wants to have an actual conversation. Today, I talked to the sweetest woman and she actually wanted to know about me. It's people like that y'all. And you won't believe it... SHE KNEW WHERE I WAS FROM!!! When I say I am from Arkansas around here people always feel obligated to ask where in Arkansas when both them and I already know they aren't gonna know where I am from in Arkansas. When this sweet lady asked I told her expecting the same old same old "Oh is that near Fayetteville?" But y'all this woman knew exactly where Stuttgart, AR was!! I was probably a little too excited, but I think she understood. She had been there with her son to the "big duck store" AKA Mack's. We then talked all about Stuttgart and how I lived there my whole life and how my parents owned a store on main street. We went through everything. It was so refreshing!
I may have left almost all voicemails thanking people, but that one lady made the whole process worth it. Plus, hopefully those people get some joy in their heart when they hear my voicemail. These annual givers are a huge part of how I am able to do what I do at TCU. It would not the same without them. It is people like them who give so generously that make this such a special place. Giving in general is something we all must do because God gives so much to us. Consider giving next time the opportunity arises... You never know what's going to come of it!
Southern and Thankful
Blessed is an understatement when it comes to my life. Each and every day I am amazed by God's steadfast love. In return, I have claimed this space to show my thanks and whatever else comes along the way. A recent graduate from Texas Christian University who loves any creative insta post, all donuts, and dress pants that make you do a double take. I pray God has a grand purpose for me and I plan to get there with a little Southern and a lot of Thanks! Join me!
